It seems quite a few people are questioning the validity of their relationships, both genders it seems, especially at this time of year. Human beings have an innate desire to be loved, to be understood and validated in some way. Some of us get validation from being good at our work through recognition of things we do well or from our spouse and friends. Depending on our dominant sense, we may feel more appreciated by a pat on the back or a hand-shake. Perhaps you like to receive a trophy, a gift or something else that shows you how much you’re treasured? Or maybe you like to be told so that you can hear how much you’re valued and respected.
There’s nothing wrong with any of these preferences though there are times when, on their own, they are not enough. It’s all very easy to ‘talk the talk’ but when there’s nothing to back it up… what happens when your partner or friend, colleague or boss doesn’t ‘walk the walk’?
